So Curious

Posted on 23 November 2009 | 12:10 am

So, I just spent the past month and a half toiling in the lab. It was such an invigorating process, working with Lee Miles and squeezing out the best representation of what I want to share with you. I never thought I would ever be able to put so much of myself into something.        Lee Miles is a fabulous artist and we clicked up tight working on this stuff- definitely one of the best collabs I’ve been involved with. (Though, we all crave some more No Time. Uh!)           Enjoy the tunes and holla at me on fb, or tweet meh. As always,        be well.

Right on Poem

Posted on 21 October 2009 | 7:41 pm

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meaness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whomever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

– Jalal ad-Din Rumi

Everything dies and births anew every moment. this is a wonderful concept and i’m sure even wonderfuler if adhered to- let me know if you know what that’s like. so, rumi discusses this as it is a truth about our nature. but, clearly we seem to live our lives obsessed with material possessions, love, lust, careers, and we tend to dwell in the past and look to the future for answers. so please tell me: why, when and how do we lose our intimacy with the momentariness of our  ’guests?’ is rumi referring to a fantasy mentality? A higher state of consciousness? Are we born with some kind of  emotional/mental sheath that veils the impermanence of our nature, convincing us that we are one ‘guest’ that is fixed and solid? How well do you welcome each moment as a new guest? I’m tryin, help me out. tell me what’s up.

love,

bobby

My Theory of Communication

Posted on 13 October 2009 | 2:33 am

So, nowadays, it’s difficult to describe things in dualistic terms. Most of us like to think in terms of continuums. We like to leave ourselves options. But, for sake of conversation, allow me to present my theory on the Two Forms of Communication.

On one hand, we have conversation that consists in describing that which has happened, is happening and will happen. Stories, descriptions, gossip, planning, organizing, evaluations, instructions etc. fall into this category.

Then we have interaction that concerns itself with inference from and expansion upon the first kind of communication. For instance: with the first kind of communication you tell your friend, “I read bobby’s blog about communication today.” Then with the second form you say, “Bobby sure is a strange guy with a lot of random issues.”

I think it is important to distinguish these two, very broad categories of verbal interaction. How often do you use each one in a day? How do other people react to each? The people you care about most, how is yawl communication different from that with others?

holla at me.

Fall approacheth

Posted on 8 October 2009 | 1:28 pm

ya know when your hands have that dry, cold, rickety feeling? Yea, well fires are burning in the hearth, pumpkins grace doorsteps, heaters are turned on and we enter into fall. I need everyone’s help trying to commit to the idea that our life can still be blossoming and re-birthing even when nature is dying. Stay warm and cozy everyone.
